WordPress Training – At Electron Workshop

In a few weeks time, on 28 June, Chris Burgess will be presenting an all-day WordPress Lab at Electron Workshop in North Melbourne.

Chris will kick off the lab with website set-up basics: tips and tricks on choosing a powerful domain name for your website, registering that domain name, and then finding the most appropriate hosting provider for your needs.

To follow, he will provide an introduction to the most popular Open Source Content Management System (CMS), WordPress. He’ll even run through the difference WordPress.com and WordPress.org. With its easy-to-use, intuitive CMS, he will demonstrate just how easy WordPress is to use to build and maintain your own website. He will provide a live demonstration on WordPress installation and walk you through the WordPress dashboard, covering how to create pages, posts, and menus, and how to insert media such as images and video.

From there, Chris will delve into Themes, and provide an overview on how to use them to completely alter the look and feel of your website. He will also run through Plugins, which you can use to give your website additional functionality (such as social media icons, contact forms, backups, spam blocking and SEO). To close, Chris will run through tips on how to maintain, and ensure the security of, your website. As always, there’ll be plenty of time for questions throughout the workshop.

This session is suitable for anyone with an interest in websites and WordPress. It is tailored to beginners, and suitable for most levels of technical knowledge. We do, however, assume that attendees will have basic computer skills.
